English 9--2/14/2013

Jump Off
--If you are an investigator (anyone not assigned the role of director or actor last class), pick up the sheet entitled "'Trifles'--What is the Crime? (Brainstorming Notes for the Trial)" from the back table.  Mr. Martin will be around with index cards.

--Mr. Martin shares list of students needing to revise for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio. If you need to revise, think about when you might schedule an appointment with Mr. Martin (the sooner, the better!).

ue date for submission is March 4th (just over two weeks from today).
--Reminder: Any writing piece that has already received a score of 80% or higher can be kept in your portfolio, as mastery has already been demonstrated.

Work Block -- Preparing for "Trifles" Production

Activity #1 -- "Trifles" Production
--as production takes place, Mr. Martin records via FlipVideo

Transition -- divide up into two groups (plaintiffs [Mr. Wright's side] and defendants [Mrs. Wright's side]) 

Activity #2 -- The Trial
--use notes (especially those taken by investigators today) to prepare for a "trial"--each side will deliver an opening statement (2:00 maximum), testimony (4:00 maximum), and a closing argument (2:00 maximum)
--Mr. Martin will circulate (In what direction are you heading?  Who will present?  Etc.)
--set the parameters for the trial
--conduct the trial

Closure -- Next class, we will finish "Trifles" by applying important literature terms to the play.  Having now dealt with the play multiple times, what literary elements/terms do you see "in action"?  Provide an example or two.

--If you need to revise for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio, think about when you might schedule an appointment with Mr. Martin (the sooner, the better!). See the list of office hours handed out early in the school year for Mr. Martin's availability. The due date for submission is March 4th (just over two weeks from today).
