Senior English--12/12/2012



Jump Off 
--Pick up a copy of the sheet from the front table, which we will use during the “Speech Delivery Activities” portion of today’s block. 
--Continue mastering the Unit #5 vocabulary words, as the quiz will take place at the beginning of next class.
--If you need to revise for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio, schedule an appointment with Mr. Martin ASAP!

--Mr. Martin shares list of students needing to revise for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio--due date is December 13th (tomorrow!)--referrals will be written at the end of the day tomorrow as per policy 
--Reminder: Any essay that has already received a score of 80% or higher can be given back to Mr. Martin for submission today.

Speech Delivery Activities -- Eye Contact, Managing Speed, and Using Pauses
--directions given for P-p-p-poker Face activity--complete the activity (eye contact)

--discuss importance of managing speed and using pauses in speeches--tips/modeling 
--quietly and independently read through Will Ferrell’s speech beginning--Consider your rate of speech/Where will you pause and for how long?--goal time = 50 seconds
--stand up at desks--two oral readings--Mr. Martin times (and expects to see your eyes a few times!)

--Be working on revisions of the College Admission/Job Interview/Military Essay for your Cumulative Writing Portfolio--the due date is December 13th (tomorrow!).
--Continue progressing through the Tuesdays with Morrie Analysis Essay assignment--Mr. Martin is available for appointments pertaining to this assignment as well!  This assignment is due on January 2nd (our first class back from break), and you will receive more specific information about the scoring of this assignment next class.
