English 10 Honors--10/29/2018

Following attendance, complete the style/voice activity as per the plan that we developed last class block.  If the activity runs its course before today's class block ends--I think you are getting released early for a class meeting--, work quietly and independently on one of the homework assignments.
  • Take out both your "Style/Voice Exposure: Pinpoint the Style/Voice of Another and Mimic It!" activity sheet and the writing piece that you plan on using. (1-2 mins.)
  • Complete the second bullet on the activity sheet (analysis of writing piece). (10-15 mins.)
  • Complete the third bullet on the activity sheet (partner share #1) in the partnerships that are written up on the whiteboard. (10-15 mins.)
  • Complete the fifth bullet on the activity sheet (quick-writing). (12 mins.--timer set...write non-stop until time is up!)
    • Pick one of the quick-write prompts written up on the whiteboard.
  • Complete the sixth bullet on the activity sheet (partner share #2). (10-15 mins.)
  • Complete the final bullet (whole-class share-out). (time permitting)
  • Membean training on your phone?  Close reading/annotating of "The Masque..."?  Free reading?  Drafting your short story? (time permitting)

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment/Class Preparation)
--Complete 45 minutes of Membean training in three different days before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 11/1 (see the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet).
HW (Class Preparation)
--Close read/annotate your assigned section of “The Masque…” (SEE DIRECTIONS IN BLOG POST TITLED "DIRECTIONS FOR CLOSE READING/ANNOTATING OF 'THE MASQUE...'") and otherwise continue working with the short story with understandings/ideas from last class block in mind.  Be prepared for an assessment and/or a discussion about the reading NEXT CLASS (Wednesday, 10/31).
--Read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class.  You have up until early December to finish your book.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS!
Writing
--Continue outlining and/or drafting your short story.  The final draft of the assignment is due on Tuesday, 11/13, which is just over 2 weeks from today!  My classroom is open after school for any individuals looking to "workshop" together.
