English 9--5/10/2013

Jump Off
--Pick up a copy of the letter and an index card from the front table.  On the card, write down everything you remember/know about parenthetical references and Works Cited pages. 
--As you write, Mr. Martin will be around with your ScanTron and a test booklet for the Dragonsong Unit Final Exam.

--discuss letter about English 10 Honors--SEE MR. MARTIN RIGHT AFTER CLASS TO SIGN UP FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAM! :)

Transition -- take a laptop from the cart and get yourself logged in

Writing Workshop -- Dragonsong Unit Final Essay
--Works Cited page instruction--Mr. Martin creates a Works Cited page for sample essay (make yours simultaneously!) and copies/pastes Works Cited page into essay--finish Works Cited page quietly and independently
--parenthetical reference instruction (Mr. Martin tweaks sample essay using Works Cited page)--tweak your own essay accordingly
DURING THE NEXT BLOCK OF TIME, YOU SHOULD TWEAK YOUR ESSAY BASED ON NEED:
1.)  discuss method of hooking and overall effectiveness of first sample introduction--make any necessary improvements together
--repeat #1 for a few more of the remaining introductions--consider thesis statements as well
DURING THE NEXT BLOCK OF TIME, MEETINGS WITH MR. MARTIN WILL OCCUR AS PER THE ORDER WRITTEN ON THE FRONT BOARD:
--continue typing your essay--body paragraphs that match up with your thesis statement (topic sentence[s], detail[s]/tieback[s], concluding sentence[s]) and conclusion (which likely addresses the "so what?")--make sure to attend to language use and conventions as you type--can you be totally finished with your essay by the end of the block?

HW
--Your final essay is due at the beginning of class next time (Tuesday, May 14th).  Make sure to align your work with the rubric (which will be posted on the blog this weekend)--strive for mastery, as you are all quite capable! :)
