English 10 Honors--11/15/2016

Jump Off (2-3 mins.)
--substitute teacher introduction

S. the C. (5-8 mins.)
--directions given for stations activity via the information written on the front board

Transition (2-3 mins.)
--"anchor in" to the "Compact for Group Work"
-- separate out into groups, pick up folder from teacher, and begin working

Stations Activity -- Animal Farm Pre-reading (35-50 mins.)
--rotate (#1 to #2...#6-#1) every 6 minutes

Transition (2-3 mins.)
--clip materials into binder and pick up more Post-its from the front table

HW Time (remainder of class)
--engage in active/purposeful reading of Animal Farm quietly and independently

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
--Complete 45 minutes of Membean training as directed before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 11/17.  If you fail to appropriately train between now and the administration of Vocabulary Quiz #3, you will not be permitted to take the quiz until you catch up (see the "Membean Routine" document).
--The due date for submitting a revised Thematic Writing Assignment—Partner Interviews essay for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio is Thursday, 12/8 (just over three weeks from today)YOU MUST schedule a meeting with me to go over your revisions; simply handing in the revisions is unacceptable as per the protocol.  When time permits, meetings can/will occur during class time.

  • As you work on improving your essay, RE-READ based on your understanding of the grammar items that we have attended to recently and see if you can make any improvements in the Control of Conventions category!
HW (Class Preparation/Take-Home Assessment)
--Read Chapter 4-Chapter 6 of Animal Farm (up to the end of page 50).  Demonstrate your best skill level in reading actively/purposefully via the Post-it Note strategy, and expect any or all of the following to occur next time that we meet: 
  • collection of your Post-its for assessment purposes
  • a "60/40" reading assessment
  • a discussion geared around your Post-its and today's stations activity 
 HW (Class Preparation)
--Read your free reading book for at least 15 minutes between now and next class.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS.  You have up until the first week of December to finish your book.
