Literacy Activity (cont.) -- Article of the Week (20-25 mins.)--DID NOT GET TO IN BLOCK 4 ACE--COMPLETED TEMPLATE IS STILL DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF NEXT CLASS
--finish engaging in independent active re-reading
--mark up a class copy of the text at the SmartBoard via a drawing of cards:
  • What is one annotation that you made?  Make the same annotation on the class copy of the text up front.
  • Why did you "do what you did"?  Explain your reasoning to your peers and teacher.
--survey and begin working on the writing template located at the end of the Article of the Week #1 document
--independent work time

Teambuilding Activity -- Artifact Bags (remainder of class, time permitting)
--I hand a paper bag to random student--he/she then displays items from the bag one at a time, briefly describing what he/she is seeing
--guess who?!
--owner of bag further describes, explains, shares anecdotes, etc. as a form of introduction to teacher/peers

--If you have a book at home that you are reading or would like to begin reading for our free reading course component, bring the book to class next time (and daily between now and when you finish the book or the end of the quarter, whichever comes first).
--Finish entirely filling in the template located on the last page of your Article of the Week #1 document for a homework check next class.  Expect to turn this template into an actual writing piece sometime in the near future!
