Jump Off
--Pick up the "Missing comma in a complex sentence/unnecessary comma before a subordinating conjunction" sheet from the front table.  Read the front of the sheet quietly, independently, and purposefully, and then complete the back of the sheet as directed.  Be prepared to "share out" in a little bit!
--Mr. Martin will be around to check your homework--please place the packet on the floor next to your desk.

--continue re-reading the novel independently--work on "Chapter 1--Close Reading Practice/Discussion Preparation" packet (15 mins.) as close reading/writing practice and preparation for today's discussion

Assessment -- "Dragonsong Unit--Foreword and Chapter 1 Reading Comprehension Check" 
--clear desks/assessment handed out
--complete the assessment again quietly and independently--when finished, put your head down on your desk
--go over the answers to the assessment
--engage in self-reflection (comprehension quizzes for both "Trifles" and Dragonsong Chapter 1 returned: How did you do?  What did you do to prepare?  What should you do to prepare?  How did you do on the "Dragonsong Unit--Foreword and Chapter 1 Reading Comprehension Check" the second time in comparison to the first time?  So what?

Transition -- share the discussion protocol (one contribution minimum/three contributions maximum--no third contribution until all have contributed once :))/"Discussion Contribution Rating Scale", form a circle

Discussion -- Dragonsong Chapter 1
--engage in discussion as per the protocol, making sure to hit as many of the questions as we can
