English 9--1/15/2019 (2 ACE)

    Jump Off
    --Please pick up a copy of the halfsheet titled "Free Reading, Vocabulary, and The Grammar Hammer--Closure" from the front table.  I will both read the directions to you and share my model for the book Beartown momentarily.

    --complete the halfsheet as directed
    --brief share-out of "Option #2" via a drawing of cards as review for the forthcoming quiz

    --directions given for how to proceed after taking today's quiz
    --Please pick up a copy of the grammar hammer quiz from the front table.  After purposefully reading the directions, complete the quiz to the best of your ability quietly and independently.  Good luck--nail it! :)

    Assessment -- The Grammar Hammer--QUIZ: Parts of Speech, Identifying Subjects and Verbs, Comma Usage with Coordinating Conjunctions (FANBOYS), and The Possessive Apostrophe

    --When you finish, please...
    • place your quiz in the black basket on the front table.
    • pick up a copy of the "The Essential Questions" sheet from the front table.  One of your class preparation assignments involves reading this sheet and freely writing any shareable thoughts/ideas you have about one or more of the questions.  You can write your thoughts/ideas on the back of the sheet.
    • decide which of the following you will do until class ends:
      • log in to your Chromebook and complete a 15-minute Membean training session
      • continue reading your free reading book
      • complete the "The Essential Questions" class preparation assignment
    HW Time

    HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
    --Complete 45 minutes of Membean training in three different days before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 1/17 (see the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet).
    HW (Class Preparation)
    --"Gist" read the "The Essential Questions" sheet and freely write any shareable thoughts/ideas you have about one or more of the questions.  You can write your thoughts/ideas on the back of the sheet.  Expect to share next class block!
    --Read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS!
