  • Pick up an index card from the front table.  Then, copy down the "sentence" written on the whiteboard underneath the clock.  Finally, find and fix the grammar error that exists in the string of words.  Good luck! :)
  • When you finish, please take a look at your last grammar hammer assessment so that you can reflect upon your performance.  Do you have any questions that I can answer?
*DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME, I WILL GET A SENSE FOR OUR CURRENT COLLECTIVE LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING OF TODAY'S COMMON GRAMMAR ERROR BY PEEKING OVER YOUR SHOULDERS AT YOUR INDEX CARDS.*

HW (Class Preparation)
--Finish preparing for a grammar hammer assessment about the possessive apostrophe, which will take place at the beginning of class NEXT TIME (Tuesday, 1/15 [ACE])/Wednesday, 1/16 [BDF]).  Part of the assessment will mirror today's post-assessment.  Also, these are the directions that you will find on another part of the assessment:
  • For each of the following sentences, which are about a debate in high schools in the United States, choose the word that correctly fills in the blank in order to demonstrate your mastery of the possessive apostrophe.
Finally, with each new Grammar Hammer assessment administered, I reserve the right to "check on" your understanding of anything grammar-related that we have already worked on this school year.  Please keep this in mind when preparing! :)
--Read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS.
