    • Though this writer is using a different method of refutation, reading the paragraph still ought to prove helpful!
Transition
--Pick up a copy of the "Poetry Analysis Practice" sheet from the front table.

Poetry Analysis Practice Activity -- "On Living"
--Step 1After purposefully reading the directions at the top of the "Poetry Analysis Practice" sheet, complete the task at hand until you are given another document and instructed to move forward with the multiple choice.
--Step 2Complete the multiple choice quietly and independently.
--Step 3Go over the multiple choice via a whole-class share-out.

Transition
--Pick up a copy of the "Poetry Writing Assignment #1" sheet from the front table.  Purposefully read the sheet.

Writing Workshop -- Poetry Writing Assignment #1
--spend at least half of the remaining class time working on the assignment--if you are "lost" in terms of how to get started, follow the suggested procedures and see what happens!


Flex Time -- A0W #1/Poetry Writing Assignment #1/Free Reading Books (remainder of class)
--continue working on the AoW #1 writing assignment OR
--continue working on the poetry writing assignment OR
--engage in free reading--students without books will read Upfront newsmagazine (located on the front table)

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
--Complete 45 minutes of Membean training in three different days before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 1/17 (see the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet).
Writing
--Finish both outlining AND writing your AoW #1 counterargument paragraph using the "Basic Counterargument Paragraph Template" and the "WRITING COMPONENT--Method of Refutation #1" sheet.  Expect to place your best work in the black basket on the front table at the beginning of class NEXT TIME (Wednesday, 1/16).
--Continue working on the "Poetry Writing Assignment #1", which is due after Midterm Week.  Make sure that your work aligns with the scoring parameters.  My classroom is available after school for any individuals looking to "workshop" together.
HW (Class Preparation)
--Read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS.

Miscellaneous
--Consider working toward achievement of your S.M.A.R.T. Goal.  Do something great this year!
