English 10 Honors--9/22/2017 & 9/25/2017

Jump Off (1-2 mins.)
--Please pick up one or both of the following documents from the front table:
  • "MLA Format (Google Docs)"
  • "MLA Format (Word 2010)"
--Consider the following question:
  • In order to move forward in the writing process as much as possible in the Computer Lab today, what do you need the environment to be like?
--The following students need to SEE ME when we arrive at the Computer Lab:
  • Austin H.

  • Tatum S.

--MLA Format overview--SEE ME in the Computer Lab if you need assistance
--thesis statement review (purpose, structure, an example, etc.)--Do you have a quality thesis statement yet?  Should you?
  • STRONGLY consider writing down any information from the board!
--discuss the Jump Off so as to create a "Compact for Lab Time"
--agenda/HW

--venture down to the Computer Lab

Assessment -- Vocabulary Quiz #1 (Fri, Sep 22, 2017) (10-15 mins?)
--Unless I inform you that you are not permitted to do so due to lack of training, log in to Membean and complete the assessment as directed.  Good luck!
--If you finish before your peers, "sneak in" a little more free reading while you wait! :)

Writing Workshop -- Thematic Writing Assignment--Partner Interviews (remainder of class)

--Suggested "game plan":
--take out your notes, outline(s), etc. and open up a document (Google Docs or Microsoft Word 2010)
--correctly format your document using one of the sheets picked up at the start of today's class
--quick-write a hook (10-ish mins.)--Do we need to review how quick writes work?
--finalize your theme statement (and, by extension, your thesis statement)
--write a bridge that smoothly connects your hook to your thesis statement
--outline/write a body paragraph--SEE our Google Classroom for a paragraph template!
--keep plugging away!

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
--Complete a total of 45 minutes of Membean training as directed before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 9/28.  If you fail to appropriately train between now and the administration of Vocabulary Quiz #2, you will not be permitted to take the quiz (see the "Membean Routine" document).
HW (Class Preparation)
--Prepare for the following ASSESSMENT:
  • mastery of terms/concepts 61-80 ("Realism"-"Verbal irony") NEXT class (Tuesday, 9/26 [ACE]/Wednesday, 9/27 [BDF])
    • FYI: TERMS/CONCEPTS FROM THE FIRST SIXTY ON THE LIST ARE "FAIR GAME," SO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REVIEW ALL OF THE TERMS/CONCEPTS.
Writing
--The Thematic Essay Writing Assignment--Partner Interviews essay (your best effort) is due at the beginning of NEXT class (Tuesday, 9/26 [ACE]/Wednesday, 9/27 [BDF]) typed in proper MLA format and printed out for placement in the black basket.  Good luck!
