    • browse the classroom library for a free reading book.
      • If you find a potentially intriguing book, sign it out by writing on the sheet located on the filing cabinet.
    • read your free reading book or a copy of Upfront newsmagazine.

Transition (1 min.)

  • make sure to log in to Membean and calibrate.
    • If you do not have an electronic device upon which to do so, hopefully a peer can help you out!  (Also, I might be able to snag us some laptops before the class block ends.)
  • continue gathering information about your partner for the "Thematic Writing Assignment--Partner Interviews" essay.
  • engage in free reading.

--REPEAT THE PROCESS...

Before You Leave (time permitting)

--an introduction from another sample essay from the past shared

HW (Class Preparation)
--If you signed out a book from the classroom library today or if you have a book at home that you are reading or would like to begin reading for our free reading course component, bring the book to NEXT class (and daily between now and when you finish the book or the end of Marking Period 2, whichever comes first).  Otherwise, make time to sign a book out either from our classroom library or the high school library.  I will be checking your books in the near future!
--Prepare for the following ASSESSMENT:
  • mastery of terms/concepts 21-40 ("Dialect"-"Literary criticism") next class (Monday, 9/18 [ACE]/Tuesday, 9/19 [BDF])
    • FYI: TERMS/CONCEPTS FROM THE FIRST TWENTY ON THE LIST ARE "FAIR GAME," SO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REVIEW THE FIRST FORTY.

--Continue getting in touch with your writing assignment partner and engaging in the "research" process (especially now that your purpose is clearer having analyzed the assignment sheet).  The more intriguing information you have gathered about your partner by the middle of next week, the better!
Writing
--The Thematic Essay Writing Assignment--Partner Interviews essay (your best effort) is tentatively due at the beginning of class on Friday, 9/22 (ACE)/Monday, 9/25 (BDF) typed in proper MLA format.
HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
--Complete a total of 45 minutes of Membean training as directed before Friday, 9/22.  If you fail to appropriately train, you will not be permitted to take Vocabulary Quiz #1 (see the "Membean Routine" document).
Miscellaneous
--Make sure to SEE ME if you have any questions about anything from our course so far.  (For example, if you are having difficulty getting your Membean account set up, swing by after school and "take care of business" on my computer!)
--Enjoy the weekend--you only get so many of 'em!
