English 10 Honors--9/19/2019

Jump Off (2-3 mins.)
--Please find your terms/concepts assessment from last class block, which is located on your desk.  Attend to the document (as well as any brief commentary that I have written) for a few moments before beginning today's assessment.

Transition/Assessment (10-15 mins.)
--Please return your previous assessment to the black basket on the front table ane pick up the "English 10 Honors--Literature and Nonfiction Terms/Concepts--Assessment--Terms/Concepts #1-42" document.  Complete the quiz quietly and independently back at your assigned seat.  Good luck!
  • When you finish taking the quiz, place it facedown on the floor underneath your desk.  Then, engage in free reading until you are instructed to stop.
Literacy Activity -- Free Reading (flex time)

Transition (3 mins.)
--form an alphabetized-by-first-name circle out of the desks in three minutes or less

Assessment/Instruction -- English 10 Honors--Literature and Nonfiction Terms/Concepts--Assessment--Terms/Concepts #1-42 (10-15 mins.)
--trade and grade by passing your assessments four to the left
  • During this time, I highly encourage you to ask clarifying questions and add to your definitions on your terms/concepts packet!
--return quizzes to owners--reflect upon performance and note still-not-mastered terms/concepts on your packet--I will collect quizzes momentarily

Teambuilding Activity -- Artifact Bags (until a few minutes remaining)
--I hand a paper bag to random student--he/she then displays items from the bag one at a time, briefly describing what he/she is seeing
--guess who?!
--owner of bag further describes, explains, shares anecdotes, etc. as a form of introduction to teacher(s)/peers

--Please continue working with your "English 10 Honors--Literature and Nonfiction Terms/Concepts" as directed and prepare for the following ASSESSMENT:
  • mastery of the next twenty-two terms/concepts ("Literary Criticism"-"Protagonist") NEXT CLASS (Monday, 9/23)
    • FYI: TERMS/CONCEPTS FROM THE FIRST FORTY-TWO ON THE LIST ARE "FAIR GAME," SO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REVIEW ALL SIXTY-FOUR.
--Please aim to read at least 5 pages of your free reading book between now and next class.  BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS DAILY!
