Jump Off (5-8 mins.)
--Please set up your binder tabs using the list on the front board.  (This list also exists as a blog post.)
--Please pick up a copy of each of the following from the table:
  • Stephanie Simon's article titled "Cyber Snoops Track Students' Activity"
  • the "A Paragraph's a Paragraph's a Paragraph! (CER)" sheet
Then, seat yourselves alphabetically using the strips of paper taped to the first desk in each column.  Finally, read the prompt below, taking note of any questions that I can answer in order to help you get started.

The Prompt
  • After both purposefully reading the article titled "Cyber Snoops Track Students' Activity" and organizing your thoughts, write an evidence-based claim paragraph in response to the following question: Is collecting information online from students a violation of privacy or a positive safety measure?  This paragraph does not require counterargument.  Good luck! :)

--Obtain your Chromebook from the cart in the back of the classroom.

Writing Workshop/Pre-Assessment--Phase 2 -- Article of the Week/ThinkCERCA #1 (30-35 mins.)
--log in to your Chromebook
--open up a Google Doc and create your writing sample

Writing Workshop/Pre-Assessment--Phase 3 -- Article of the Week/ThinkCERCA #1 (up until a few minutes remaining in class)
--log in to ThinkCERCA and submit your writing sample (see directions written on the whiteboard)
--If you finish before class ends, please read your free reading book or a copy of a short story (SEE ME!).

Before You Leave
--fully shutdown your Chromebook, return it to the proper slot, and plug it in via a cord

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment/Class Preparation)
--Complete Membean training until you have earned 100 correct responses (approximately 45 minutes) over three different days before 11:59 PM THIS THURSDAY (9/26).  (See the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet.)
--Complete another round of Membean training until you have earned 100 correct responses (approximately 45 minutes) over three different days before 11:59 PM next Thursday (10/3).  (See the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet.)
HW (Class Preparation)
--Please read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS!  I will be checking your books in the near futue!
