WORKING ON SKILLS/CREATING MATERIALS THAT WILL ULTIMATELY HELP YOU PUT TOGETHER AND SUBMIT YOUR END-OF-COURSE ASSIGNMENT

    • edit/revise one of your quick writes in preparation for typing it
  • click on the "Edited/Revised Quick Write of Choice" Google Doc, carefully read the directions, and type your edited/revised quick write. When you finish, make sure to click the "Turn in" button.

English 10 Honors--Thursday, 4/23/2020-Wednesday, 4/29/2020

The only new task posted today is to FINISH actively/purposefully reading Lord of the Flies and continue engaging in the "discussion" via Flipgrid. (I have renamed the assignment/Flipgrid "LotF 'Discussion'--CH. 8-The End" and added a shared Google Doc to the assignment if you are uncomfortable recording yourself.) Otherwise, please make sure that you have done the following since our Google Classroom opened in March:
  • Logged in to Membean and completed at least 45 minutes of training
  • Contributed to at least one of the teambuilding Flipgrids (or shared Google Docs if you are uncomfortable recording yourself)
    • I have added a shared Google Doc to the assignment titled "Flipgrid for 4/16-4/29".

  • would like me to share some enrichment opportunities with you. For example, perhaps you are interested in reading about other teens' experiences during this time and want to write creatively about your own experiences? If so, I have some information that I can share!
  • are not caught up in English class. In your email, give me a sense of what is going on in your life right now so that the school district can provide the help needed. It might be as simple as needing clearer directions--I can help with that via a phone call, video, etc.--or something much more complex. By the beginning of next week, teachers will be calling home for any students who are not engaging in our Google Classrooms and sharing with administration what we find out. Again, the school district is just trying to be helpful so that all of our students can move forward! :)

No new assignments are being posted today. Instead, between today and next Wednesday, please make sure that you have done the following since our Google Classroom opened in March:
  • Logged in to Membean and completed at least 45 minutes of training
  • Completed and turned in the assignment titled "One-Paragraph Response About Author's Purpose"
    • If you have already turned in this writing piece, please attend to the comments that I have provided in order to make your writing piece even better!
    • If you have not yet turned in this writing piece, please note that I have posted in Google Classroom a read-aloud of "The Three Questions" as another story option about which you could write.

    • View the first three videos of Mr. Martin reading Finney's short story aloud.
    • As you read/listen, look for evidence that helps you respond to the following questions:
      • What is something that the author does purposefully?  If you are struggling to come up with something on your own, consider selecting an item from the list below:
        • (S)he alludes to an historical event, a famous story, etc.
        • (S)he appeals to multiple senses in order to create imagery.
        • (S)he creates suspense.
        • (S)he characterizes a character a certain way.
        • (S)he implements irony (dramatic, situational, and/or verbal).

      • Search for anything your author does purposefully.  For example, does your author characterize a character a certain way?  Does your author use a literary technique like irony or symbolism or a literary convention like "geography" or "marked for greatness" for a certain effect?
      • Brainstorm theme words (e.g., adversity, love, etc.) for your book.
      • Develop potential theme statements about the themes that emerge in your book (especially if you have read past the halfway point!).
      • Allow your free reading book to help you answer the "why?" question.
        • Why does the protagonist in your book do what (s)he does, say what (s)he says, etc.?
      • JOURNAL YOUR THOUGHTS/IDEAS FOR 5 MINUTES?!
  • Friday
