English 10 Honors--9/7/2018

ABBREVIATED SCHEDULE--CLASS ENDS AROUND 8:30

In the Door  (2 mins.)
--sit at desk with Classroom Coupon and index card
--attendance
--purpose of Classroom Coupon

Jump Off  (8 mins.)
--concept of the Jump Off explained (an in-the-door protocol we'll follow each class day this year)
--Pick up each of the following from the front table (unless you already have some of the items): 
  • a paper bag
  • the "Artifact Bag" sheet
  • Letter
  • "Important Information" document
  • "English 10 Honors--Literature and Nonfiction Terms/Concepts" document
--In pen or pencil on the back of your index card, jot down some of the music groups/bands that you listen to and/or some of your favorite songs.
Anticipatory Set  (10-15 mins.)
--welcome/broad course overview:
  • Reading Like a Champ
    • Literature

Looking Ahead -- Upcoming Assignments (10-15 mins.)
--purposeful oral reading of "Artifact Bag" assignment sheet picked up during "Jump Off" or Meet and Greet
  • the "why?" modeled with an item placed in Mr. Martin's bag
  • Q & A ("Artifact Bag"/other assignments)
HW Time (remainder of class until called down to the Opening Ceremony)
--set parameters for work time
--work on purposefully reading the "Important Information" document OR...

HW (Class Preparation)
--Complete the "Artifact Bag" assignment as directed to turn in at the beginning of class on Thursday, 9/13.  I am looking forward to taking "breaks in the action" the next few weeks in order to use these bags for teambuilding!
--Purposefully read the "Important Information" document and bring the necessary materials to NEXT class (Tuesday, 9/11).  Have your parent(s)/guardian(s) review the letter and the "Important Information" document. Bring the signature slip to turn in at the beginning of NEXT class for a 100% Class Preparation grade.
--Begin/continue working with your "English 10 Honors--Literature and Nonfiction Terms/Concepts" as directed.
--Prepare for the following ASSESSMENTS:
  • mastery of the policies ("Important Information" document) NEXT class (Tuesday, 9/11)
  • mastery of terms/concepts ("English 10 Honors--Literature and Nonfiction Terms/Concepts" document) (Monday, 9/17)

--Make sure to SEE ME if you have any questions about anything from today's class!  Though I know it might be a little intimidating or seem "weird," you need to get used to advocating for yourself and become comfortable working with me and your other teachers ASAP! :)
