English 10 Honors--10/11/2016

Jump Off (5-8 mins.)
--Pick up a highlighter and the sheet entitled "Parts of Speech--Pretest" from the front table.  Complete the sheet quietly and independently.  Good luck!

--When you finish, place your pretest in the black basket on the front table and wait for further directions.  Consider reading your free reading book in the meantime!

Purposeful Independent Reading -- “The Masque of the Red Death” (40ish mins.)
--purposefully read “The Masque…” using the “Short Story Analysis Sheet” quietly and independently--keep our ideas from last class in mind
  • If you have a smartphone, feel free to use it in order to complete the pre-reading.  Also, the literature anthologies and short story books on the back bookshelf should prove helpful.
  • When you finish, "switch gears" and engage in free reading quietly and independently.
DEAR -- Free Reading Books (remainder of class)
--students without books will read Upfront newsmagazine (located in a stack on the front table)

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
--Complete a total of 45 minutes of Membean training as directed before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 10/13.  If you fail to appropriately train between now and the administration of Vocabulary Quiz #2, you will not be permitted to take the quiz (see the "Membean Routine" document).

HW (Class Preparation)
--Prepare for the "Parts of Speech--Post-test," which will take place at the beginning of class on Monday, 10/17.  It might be in your best interest to review via the following website if you were not able to confidently complete today's pretest: http://arts.uottawa.ca/writingcentre/en/hypergrammar/the-parts-of-speech/review-parts-of-speech
--Continue thinking about your short story.  The final draft of the assignment will be due before you know it!
--Finish purposefully reading/consider purposefully rereading “The Masque…”  Be prepared for an assessment and/or a discussion about the reading next class.

--Read your free reading book for at least 15 minutes between now and next class. ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS.
