English 10 Honors--3/5/2020

Jump Off
--Please pick up each of the following from the front table (unless, of course, you already have some of the items):
  • the "Narrowing Your Topic" sheet
  • the "Finding the Questions Exercise" halfsheet
  • a blank "Book Review" template
  • the "Sample Book Review for Beartown Using Template" sheet
--Please obtain your Chromebook from the cart in the back of the classroom.  Back at your desk, log in.
--Please take a look (again) at the following piece of information:
  • A Note from Bruce Ballenger's The Curious Researcher:
    • "The closer [photographers get] to their subjects, the more they [begin] to see what they had never noticed before.  The same is true in writing.  As you move in for a closer look at some aspect of some larger [topic], you will begin to uncover information that you--and ultimately your readers--are likely to find less familiar and more interesting.  One writing phrase for this is narrowing your [topic]."
*REMINDERDURING TODAY'S CLASS BLOCK, I WILL CONTINUE CALLING STUDENTS OVER TO MY WORKSTATION SO THAT WE CAN MEET ONE-ON-ONE ABOUT CONVENTIONS OF LITERATURE WRITING PIECES.*

--Next week, we will access the high school library databases in order to continue conducting research.  Continue thinking about the following question:

--Don't forget about this question, too:
  • End-of-Course Assignment: What is your "why?"?
HW (Class Preparation)
--Actively/purposefully read CHAPTER SIX of Lord of the Flies.  Then, complete the analysis task as per the "Lord of the Flies--CHAPTER SIX Discussion Preparation/Take-Home Assessment" sheet as further preparation for discussion and/or to turn in as an assessment.  This assignment is due at the beginning of class NEXT TIME (Monday, 3/9).
--Aim to read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class block.
You have up until Wednesday, 3/11 (the middle of NEXT WEEK!) to finish your book.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS!
