LIBRARY
  • Seat yourselves at the computers via a drawing of cards
  • Engage with instruction delivered by Mrs. Donohue
  • Follow the directions on the halfsheet so that you can move toward developing a "focused knowledge"
    • A Note from Bruce Ballenger's The Curious Researcher:
      • "If working knowledge equips you to sustain a 1-minute dinner conversation on your topic, then focused knowledge is enough for you to make a 15- or 20-minute presentation to the rest of the class.  You'll probably be able to answer all of your classmates' questions.  You'll hardly be an expert, but you'll probably know a lot more about your topic than any of your peers...Focused knowledge is the product of smart research this week and the next, refining your search terms, knowing where to look for the most useful information, and using your time efficiently...Most important, especially at this point, are these two questions:
        1. Is this information relevant to my inquiry question?
        2. Does it change my question?"
Before You Leave
--check in with me and share your progress (time permitting)

Practice/Take-Home Assessment/Class Preparation

Writing/Class Preparation
--Please continue thinking about the following questions:
  • Research Unit: What might you ARGUE with regard to your research topic?  Do you find yourself coming any closer to an answer to this question?
  • End-of-Course Assignment: What is your "why?"?
Class Preparation
--Aim to read at least 10 pages of your free reading book between now and next class block.
You have up until Wednesday, 3/11 to finish your book.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS!
