Transition
--Pick up wadded up pieces of paper from the front table (up to three depending on contributions made two classes ago).  Take out the following materials:
  • "Factions Organizers" pages
  • "Notice & Note" Post-its/notes
  • general Post-its/notes
  • question(s)/prompt(s) considered during "Discussion Preparation"  block that took place two classes ago
Discussion -- Veronica Roth's Divergent Chapter 1-Chapter 16
--some notes about today's discussion:
  • In order to contribute to the discussion, you must raise your hand with one of your wadded up strips of paper.  I will do my best to select contributors based on the order of hands raised, but I would like for us to "exhaust a thread" of the conversation before moving on to something new.
  • After making a contribution, throw your strip of paper at the recycling bin in the middle of the circle.  If you make a shot, 1 bonus point is added to the class participation score that you earn for your contributions!
  • Contributions, as in the past, will be assessed via the "Discussion Contribution Rating Scale".  Does anyone need to see the scale as a reminder of the expectations?
  • No one can make a third and final contribution until everyone has made one contribution.
--engage in high-level discussion

Transition -- re-column the desks

HW Time (time permitting)

--Try to find some time to read your free reading book between now and next class.  ALWAYS BRING YOUR FREE READING BOOK TO CLASS!
HW (Writing)
--The due date for submitting a revised The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet End-of-Unit Essay for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio is Monday, 6/6 (just under three weeks from today)--YOU MUST schedule a meeting with me to go over your revisions; simply handing in the revisions is unacceptable as per the protocol.  In fact, you can expect me to ASSIGN meeting times if necessary to "get the ball rolling". When time permits, meetings can/will occur during class time.
