--Please take out your marked-up copy of Mary Oliver's poem titled "The Journey".  During the next part of today's class block, we will continue sharing annotations via a drawing of cards and marking up our class copy of the poem.

Poetry Analysis Practice Activity (cont.) -- Mary Oliver's "The Journey" (15-20 mins.)
--picking back up with Eli's contribution from last class block:
  • What mood is precisely conveyed at the start of the poem?
  • What mood is precisely conveyed at the end of the poem?
  • Where does the shift in mood occur?
  • What word choices (diction) conveys the mood?
  • What action of the speaker corresponds with the shift in mood?
--Step 4 (c0nt.): After considering the questions listed above, continue engaging in a whole-class share-out via a drawing of cards.  (As this occurs, I will continue marking up our class copy of the poem on the SMART Board.)

HW (Class Preparation/Take-Home Assessment)
--Use the sheet titled "The Alchemist up to page 84--Discussion Preparation" to prepare for a circle discussion next class block about the first half of Paulo Coelho's novella.  Make sure that you come prepared with at least two potential contributions, aiming for a Level 4 on the "Discussion Contribution Rating Scale".

--Continue thinking about the following questions:
  • Research Unit: What might you argue with regard to your research topic?
