--Take out your "The Kite Runner Unit--Mini-Research Presentation Notes" page from last class, as we will finish presentations at the beginning of class today.

Presentations/Notetaking (cont.) -- The Kite Runner Unit--Mini-Research
--finish presentations as per the protocol

Transition -- pick up the "Chapter Three--Notetaking/Discussion Preparation" sheet from the front table

Discussion Preparation/Oral Reading -- The Kite Runner Chapter Three
--Block 1: take a look at the bulletted list for Chapter Two vs. the close reading questions as well as some exemplary notes--rationale behind "..." sheet
--read through bulletted list--align minds
--begin reading Chapter Three--Mr. Martin jots down notes for the first bullet as a model
--oral reading of Chapter Three--read/listen with your literary antennae up!
--independent work time--jot down notes in order to prepare for discussion (bear in mind the "Discussion Contribution Rating Scale" when taking notes/preparing contributions)
--engage in discussion--Mr. Martin assesses via the "Discussion Contribution Rating Scale"

--share the reading timeline for the remainder of the school year/discuss availability of audio book files

--The due date for submitting a revised Arguing for a Position Research Paper for the Cumulative Writing Portfolio is May 20th (approximately 1.5 weeks from today)--Do you want/need to revise? Don't forget to schedule a meeting with Mr. Martin to go over your revisions (meeting times will fill up quickly!).
--Review your "Mini-Research Presentation Notes" prior to next class, as an upcoming assessment is quite possible
--Read up to page 58 of The Kite Runner.  Jot down notes for discussion on Post-its, on a sheet of paper, in your notebook...whatever you prefer!  What might you look for?  Can we have rich discussions without close reading questions OR bulletted lists of what to look for?
