English 10--3/13/2019

Jump Off
--Here is the to-do list for today's class block:
  • Log in to Membean and complete the quiz that has been deployed.  Consider completing a 15-minute training session, too (if time permits).
  • Complete the "Soft Skills Self-Assessment" document for Marking Periods 3 and 4.
    • I encourage you to access the blog so that you can specifically recall what we have been up to since 1/28 that you should be considering.
  • Take care of the free reading course component for Marking Periods 3 and 4 (if you have not already done so).
  • Continue moving forward on the first paragraph of the writing assignment quietly and independently.
    • DURING TODAY'S CLASS BLOCK, I WILL...
      • RETURN ITEMS FROM EARLIER IN THE MARKING PERIOD
      • MEET WITH STUDENTS ONE-ON-ONE AT THE FRONT TABLE.  I WOULD LIKE TO MEET WITH THESE STUDENTS FIRST:
        • Steffan G.
        • Dawson S.
        • Peter T.
        • Trent W.
ATTEND TO THE TO-DO LIST

HW (Practice/Take-Home Assessment)
--Complete 45 minutes of Membean training in three different days before 11:59 PM TOMORROW (Thursday, 3/14) (see the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet).
--WE ARE TAKING A BREAK FROM MEMBEAN 3/15-3/21; HOWEVER, YOU CAN STILL TRAIN THESE NEXT 7 DAYS (AND ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO DO SO IF YOU HAVE FALLEN BEHIND)
--Complete another 45 minutes of Membean training in three different days before 11:59 PM on Thursday, 3/28 (see the "English Department Membean Routine" sheet).
Writing
--Move forward on your "End-of-Novella-Unit Literary Analysis Written Response" by aiming to complete your first paragraph by the beginning of NEXT CLASS (Friday, 3/15) and the entire writing piece by the beginning of class on Wednesday, 3/20.  We will work in class again on Friday, 3/15.
  • What is a strong theme statement for the novella or book?
  • What additional pieces of evidence from the novella or book do you intend to use?
--Continue thinking about the following questions:
  • Research Unit: What might you argue with regard to your research topic?
    • At this point, you should have at least two proper sources printed out and actively/purposefully read.  Continuing to read in this manner should help you zero in on your argument!
  • End-of-Course Assignment: What is your "why?"?
HW (Class Preparation)
--Be thinking about the memoir genre.  Whose life/what "type" of life would you like to read about during the last 12 weeks of the school year?

On the Backburner
  • "Poetry Assessment #1" back
    • complete "cheat sheet" while going over
  • preparing to read LotF
  • memoir of choice (could be An Ordinary Man!) as last free reading
