S. the C.
--You should leave class today...
  • having completed a personality test which aims to help define "who you are and why you do things the way you do."
  • having read through the results of the personality test, reflected on the experience, and connected your thoughts and understandings to George Orwell's Animal Farm.
    • About reading the results, one test-taker claimed, "[I]t was like there was a person looking inside my mind and telling me what they saw."
  • somewhat more able to answer the following question that overarches our course: What is your "why?"?

Activity (Part 1) -- 16Personalities and Animal Farm--The Personality Test
--directions MODELED on the SMART Board/sample self-reflection read aloud
--Transition
  • Please obtain your Chromebook from the cart in the back of the classroom.  Then, log in and follow the directions below.
--Directions:
  • Click on the link below:
  • Click on the "Take the Test" button.
  • Complete the "Free Personality Test" as thoughtfully as you can via ranking your level of agreement/disagreement with each prompt.
  • When you receive your results, click on the "Start reading" button.  Then, read the following somewhat purposefully:
    • the "Introduction"
    • the "Strengths & Weaknesses" section
    • one additional section of your choosing (e.g., "Friendships" or "Career Paths" or...)
    • Purposeful reading questions to consider:
      • What is your personality type like?
      • To what extent do you agree with your results?
      • What do you find most surprising?
      • To which character from Animal Farm do you most relate?  In what ways?
    • When you finish, either...
      • read through additional sections of your or results OR
      • set your Chromebook aside and engage in free reading until everyone has finished.
Activity (Part 2) -- 16Personalities and Animal Farm--Self-Reflection
--directions MODELED on the SMART Board
--Directions:
  • Open a Google Doc and name it "16Personalities and Animal Farm--Self-Reflection."
  • Type non-stop for ten minutes in response to the following prompt:
    • Reflect on your experience with the personality test, and connect your experience to Animal Farm.
      • (If this prompt is too general for you, consider, instead, aiming to answer each of the purposeful reading questions.)
  • FYI: This writing piece is what is often called a quick write.  As such, you should...
    • type as rapidly as possible
    • change nothing
    • lower your standards (which seems "weird" since you have been asked by English teachers for years to raise your standards, elevate your diction, "clean up" your conventions, etc.!)
      • Let everything in without judging the quality of the piece.
      • Allow one line that you have written to trigger something different in the next line, pulling from the corners of your brain.
    • let your own thinking guide you, not the prompt.
--follow the directions above as soon as you hear "GO!"

Before You Leave
--Please make sure that Mr. Martin knows your personality type for grouping purposes next class block.
--Please fully shut down your Chromebook, return it to the proper slot, and plug it in via a cord.
