English 10 Honors--11/7/2012

Jump Off --Take out your notebooks and open to your notes from last class.  We have one more slide of notes for Romanticism as a Literary Movement.

--Mr. Martin shares list of students needing to revise for the Writing Portfolio.  Any student with a "mastery mark" on the first assignment and not planning to do any additional revisions can submit the essay to Mr. Martin for the Writing Portfolio.   

Mini-Lesson (cont.) -- “The Masque of the Red Death”
--take a thoughtful look at pictures via slides--let's consider the story allegorically
--Transition--take out “Short Story Analysis Sheet” and literature book and form a circle out of the desks
--engage in discussion via notes written on “Short Story Analysis Sheet”
--what is a controlling idea?--transition into next agenda item

Application Activity -- Controlling Idea Practice--"The Masque.." and "Appointment"
--read "Appointment" aloud--Your Purpose: Come up with a controlling idea sentence for our two most recent works.

--Finish purposefully reading “The Necklace” (if not finished in class).
--Complete the "Controlling Idea (Theme Statement) Practice--'Social Class'" sheet (explicate poem and finish sentence-starter at the bottom of the sheet).
